Can I claim relief for medical insurance contributions?

If your employer pays part or all of your medical insurance, you may be entitled to additional tax relief for the year. If you pay the medical insurance directly or through your employer, tax relief is granted at the source, and you are not entitled to additional relief.

Relief available is equal to the lesser of either:

  • 20% of the cost of the policy
  • 20% of €1,000 (equal to a credit of €200)

Regarding a child policy, relief available is the lesser of 20% of the cost of the policy or 20% of €500 (equal to a credit of €100).

For this relief, a child is any individual under 21 years of age.
