If you foster a child with Tusla, The Child and Family Agency is responsible for finding suitable foster parents, and the allowances you receive are exempt from taxation under the Finance Bill 2005. This means that the money you earn isn’t classed as income when applying for certain benefits and will not affect your ability to receive disability allowance, disability benefit, unemployment assistance or a medical card.
Guardian payments are taxable. A guardian's payment is regarded as the beneficial property of the child and is therefore assessable against their income (if any), not against the income of the person getting the guardian's payment.
