When you are working in Germany your employer deducts various insurance contributions (health, unemployment, pension etc) and transfers them to the relevant German Fund. Later on when you return to your home country you might need to prove that you have paid social insurance contributions abroad in order to receive unemployment or other social benefits in your home or any other EU/EEA country.
In order to do this you will need to provide to your local social security service the certified U1 form.
