What’s a BSN number and do I need one?

The citizen service number has replaced the tax and social insurance number (Sofinumer). A citizen service number (BSN) is the unique personal number you are registered under in the Personal Records Database (BRP). A BSN is comprised of 8 or 9 digits. You receive a citizen service number once. Your citizen service number will always remain valid and unchanged even if you live abroad (or are going to live abroad).
